Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix is a movie based on book 5 of the Harry Potter series. The movie was released in 2007 and the DVD is not yet available.
I’ve added a link to the book in case you are interested in reading it.
In the movie, we see that things at Hogwart’s school has been changing. The headmaster has been practically hiding and Harry Potter has been having nightmares.
The movie starts with Harry threatened by his cousin and they are both attacked by those scary creatures that guard Azkaban. Since he used magic to stop them from killing his undeserving cousin, he promptly receives a letter saying that he was expelled from school for using magic in front of a muggle.
He is rescued from his locked bedroom by his friends and he goes in front of a hearing to save himself from expulsion. We know something is wrong because it feels like a literal ‘witch hunt’.
The magic newspaper also shows us how someone is damaging Harry Potter’s reputation and to top it all off the magic authority is taking over Hogwart’s.
Harry learns more about his past and he learns to take on a leadership role. In the past he seemed to just go with the flow. He only needs a little encouragement to start teaching his classmates how to defend themselves from magic since they are no longer learning magic in class. Harry eventually takes on his nemisis Voldemort.
I really found this movie to be very exciting. There was plenty of action and effects. The plot was captivating and there were a few moments that were emotional. There were some of the funny moments we expect from Harry Potter movies. My favorite funny moment was when the ‘bad guys’ were trying to get in the secret chamber and the door shrank to tiny proportions as the ran up to it and hit the wall.
I give this movie a rating of 5/5

Spirited Away (in Spanish it is called: El Viaje de Chihiro)
I saw this movie dubbed in Spanish so I can’t say what the English version sounds like, but it is obviously a Japanese movie. This movie is another one of my favorites. As long as you don’t mind Japanese style movies then you’ll like Spirited Away.
It is about Chihiro who was moving with her parents to a new city. While they were trying to find their house, they got lost and ended up at a tradutional looking town surrounded by strange statues.
They entered the mysterious town and found a restaurant with food, but no guests. The parents eat and eat thinking that they’ll pay when the owners arrive. They turn into fat pigs. It gets dark and Chihiro is surrounded by frightening shadows. She can’t escape and an adventure ensues.
Will she survive? Will she be able to save her parents?
If you like Spirited Away you might like other movies from Miyazaki.
