Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix is a movie based on book 5 of the Harry Potter series. The movie was released in 2007 and the DVD is not yet available.
I’ve added a link to the book in case you are interested in reading it.
In the movie, we see that things at Hogwart’s school has been changing. The headmaster has been practically hiding and Harry Potter has been having nightmares.
The movie starts with Harry threatened by his cousin and they are both attacked by those scary creatures that guard Azkaban. Since he used magic to stop them from killing his undeserving cousin, he promptly receives a letter saying that he was expelled from school for using magic in front of a muggle.
He is rescued from his locked bedroom by his friends and he goes in front of a hearing to save himself from expulsion. We know something is wrong because it feels like a literal ‘witch hunt’.
The magic newspaper also shows us how someone is damaging Harry Potter’s reputation and to top it all off the magic authority is taking over Hogwart’s.
Harry learns more about his past and he learns to take on a leadership role. In the past he seemed to just go with the flow. He only needs a little encouragement to start teaching his classmates how to defend themselves from magic since they are no longer learning magic in class. Harry eventually takes on his nemisis Voldemort.
I really found this movie to be very exciting. There was plenty of action and effects. The plot was captivating and there were a few moments that were emotional. There were some of the funny moments we expect from Harry Potter movies. My favorite funny moment was when the ‘bad guys’ were trying to get in the secret chamber and the door shrank to tiny proportions as the ran up to it and hit the wall.
I give this movie a rating of 5/5

I Think I Love My Wife
I Think I Love My Wife
I Think I Love My Wife is a great comedy starring Gina Torres, and Chris Rock.
If you remember from my Serenity review, I am a big fan of Gina Torres. You’ve seen her in Cleopatra 2525, Firefly, Serenity, and other works.
I Think I love My Wife is about a typical marriage with two young children. He has an office job and the story is focused on Chris’s character. The couple no longer has sex. In fact it seems to be without any physical affection. They argue some and they are stuck in a routine. They ALWAYS eat chicken for supper.
Their marriage seems to be a matter of who is to blame. One day he finds a hot woman he knew before and she does everything she can to spend time with him trying to seduce him. Eventually his wife (Gina) figures out something is wrong and confronts him. He eventually decides it isn’t worth it, and that he really does love his wife. We assume that they fix their past issues at this point.
It is however inappropriate for children. There is alot of talk about sex but you don’t see anything offensive. You do hear many bad words including the f-word and the b-word (which used to be considered offensive) Really, the words you hear aren’t any worse than most highschool students use when by themselves, so I’d say this movie is ok for 16+ unless you are Mormon. In that case this movie would be a bad choice.
The movie is great I give it a 5/5. (one point for Gina Torres)

The Perfume
The Perfume is a very disturbing movie that is for adults only. It isn’t a terror film but it has some quite disturbing and grotesque or macabre scenes.
The Perfume is about a young man who grew up in Paris in the 1800s. He was sold as an orphan then as a teenager to work in a tannery. He was a strange boy, he had verbal communcation skills, but he had a dog-like sense of smell. He accidentally killed a girl that he followed because he liked how she smelled. He suffocated her when she tried to scream to alert others.
He managed to get ‘bought’ by a perfumer because his sense of smell was so good. He inquired how to preserve the scent or essense of someone. He experimented on a cat and later pretty young women.
This movie has exposed body parts except for male-frontal exposure. There are other scenes that I’d rather not describe. Did I mention that this is NOT for children nor teenagers?
The story in general isn’t bad. In fact I found it interesting in a film noir way. The acting is very good too. The setting and costumes are also quite nice.
If you are over 18 and mentally stable go ahead and watch this movie and then clear your head with a G (general) rated movie like Bambie.
I give it 3/5 for mentally stable adults only

Mission Impossible III
Mission Impossible III is a movie that is full of action. There are car chases, explosions, jumping from tall buildings, and self-electrocution. Of course we have Tom Cruise as a protagonist.
We discover in this movie that his character is recently married and he was asked to get involved in the kidnapping of a black marketer who is very powerful. Once they kidnap the bad guy, he is rescued and Tom’s character, Ethan, is forced to get for the bad guy the ‘rabbit foot’ which is just something in a bottle with a toxic symbol on it. Who set him up and why? Will his wife be ok?
I recommend this movie only for people who want to watch an action film and don’t care about the story. The movie stars well and the middle is good too, but the ending is a let down which leaves the viewer with more questions than answers. It was anti-climatic. I give it a 3/5 for great action and disappointing plot.

The Marine
The marine is movie that is simply put ‘pure action’. The Marine’s plot is easy to understand even if it were in Chinese. A Marine is discharged and he gets a job as a security guard. There is the robbery of a jewelry store and when the muscle-bound ex-marine and his beautiful wife decide to go on a vacation, she gets kidnapped by the jewel thieves. Everything else is just fighting, explosions, some biting, and butt-kicking.
If you are looking for muscles, explosions, car chases, and fighting, this movie is for you. If you are looking for an involved story try a different movie on this site.
This movie stars John Cena from WWE, a ‘professional wrestler’.

Twister
Twister is another favorite of mine. It is an exaggeration of what Tornados do. Not that they can’t be as vicious as shown in the movie just that you won’t find so many tornados that are that strong in so short a time.
Twister stars Helen Hunt who many had seen on the television series ‘Mad about you’. She plays the part of a tornado researcher who is about to test a new device, called Dorothy, that releases golf-ball-sized sensors into a tornado. The problem is that they have to be almost under a tornado for the device to work.
Her husband appears with his girlfriend and papers to finalize their divorce. She puts him off making excuses then a good storm shows up on radar.
The movie has lots of action and weather
The effects are exciting but not overbearing.
If you are looking for a nature based action film, this one is for you.
